It’s hard to believe the Christmas season is upon us already, 2016 has raced by and now its time to start look forward into what you want to achieve for 2017
As we all know, these next 2 months are filled with numerous opportunities to “relax the health rules” and indulge a little more than usual. At Red Rock Health and Fitness we don’t believe that you need to abstain from pleasure 100% to maintain your wellbeing.....
but we do believe that by managing to maintain some of your usual healthy habits over the Christmas break, you have the potential to enjoy your holiday even more. How? because being healthy means you feel great and you are filled with energy and motivation to go out and enjoy each day, rather than the opposing side of that – spending your days hungover on the couch. The name of the game is to find balance between both pleasure and health.

Here are a few tips as to how you can maintain health, without sacrificing pleasure over the Christmas break:

1. Choose your treats: there are many social occasions over the Christmas season outside of just Christmas day and New Years. Choose which of these you are going to allow yourself to indulge a little, instead of over indulging at all of them. Ensure you are well fed, and have had enough water before attending events to prevent overeating and temptation.

2. Sober up: there are many ways to reduce your overall alcohol intake in the silly season, such as; nominate yourself to be the sober driver for a couple of social occasions, include mocktails or soda water spritzers as a drink option at parties and on Christmas day, ensure your water intake is adequate by alternating an alcoholic drink with a large glass of water.

3. Be active: wether you are holidaying or staying around town for the break it doesn’t matter, exercise is not limited to a gym – the outdoors are your playground! If holidaying, include daily activities that encourage physical activity such as bush walks, hire bikes to cycle around the new destination, try stand up paddle boarding at a local beach, find a local park that contains some exercise equipment as many of them do now, or even walking to the café for breakfast – it all adds up!

We believe that how you take your first step into the New Year can completely change the landscape of the year ahead of you. So if you want a year of health filled vitality for 2017, then don’t forget to take your healthy habits on holiday with you!
