EAT FOOD YOU ENJOY EATING!
I'm a Nutritionist and I don't believe in 'diets', sure I recommend people eat / don't eat certain foods; but I am extremely conscious of not labelling different dietary protocols, or applying extremely strict guidelines - doing so does not result in long term change.
We either quit/binge after a certain amount of time because of the pressure of discipline, or we beat ourselves up if we step outside of the "rules" of the diet.
Naturally in my line of work I see people that have followed numerous diets, and feel quite shitty about themselves that nothing has lasted or make comments like "I just can't stick to anything", often when I enquire about how much pleasure was involved with the meals they were eating, there is a resounding "NONE". I believe pleasure, taste and enjoyment are crucial in staying on track, if you love what you're eating why would you ever go back to your old ways?
Find ways to incorporate foods that make your heart sing and you will never diet another day in your life -
- make healthier versions of your favourite recipes
- Buy healthy cookbooks
- Scroll websites
- Try new cooking styles
- Go to a cooking class
- Use plenty of herbs and spices for flavour
- Most importantly; listen to your body and adapt your nutrition to how different foods make YOU feel
